What Are Seasonal Allergies

Seasonal allergies, also known as hay fever, usually happen in the spring and summer time when pollen is released into the air from trees, grass, weeds, and flowers. Pollen is what causes the seasonal allergies. Keep reading to learn more about the symptoms and what you can use to help eliminate the sniffles.

Symptoms of Seasonal Allergies

There are many symptoms of allergies. These symptoms can resemble the common cold as well.

  • Itchy and red eyes
  • Watery eyes
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Drainage from the nose
  • Headache
  • Sneezing
  • Dry cough
  • Scratchy or sore throat
  • Ear Congestion

A health care professional can run a few tests to give you an official diagnosis. A skin prick test is a common test done for seasonal allergies.  This test is monitored for allergic reactions from common or suspected allergens.

3 Great Essential Oils for Allergies

Essential oils are an easy way to help you eliminate seasonal allergies. Breathing in essential oils aroma is known as aromatherapy. For my recipe you will need three common essential oils and a personal inhaler device which allows you to breath in the essential oils. I recommend the aluminum personal inhalers. There are several available on Amazon. These are the ones I use.

You will need:

  • Mandarin Essential Oil
  • Cypress Essential Oil
  • Cedarwood (Atlas) Essential Oil
  • Personal Inhaler
  • Glass or metal bowl, or paper towel

Create your Personal inhaler

To create your personal inhaler, disassemble the inhaler. Place the cotton wick in a glass or metal bowl. If you are extra careful with your drops you can place the wick on a folded paper towel. You don’t want to get any of your essential oils on the countertop or on a plastic dish, as they might eat through the plastic or countertop material.

Add the following drops to the cotton wick of your personal inhaler.

  • 6 drops Mandarin Essential Oil
  • 5 drops Cypress Essential Oil
  • 4 drops Cedarwood (Atlas)

Carefully slide the wick into the glass container of the personal inhaler. Reassemble your inhaler.

To use, hold the opening of the inhaler up to your nose. Inhale 1-3 times. Use as needed.

This recipe is also safe for children. However, the scent may be to strong for your child. For this, simple waft the inhaler under your child’s nose and see how they react.
